CLASS 4A BOYS’ SEMIFINALS Madison Academy 49, Greensboro 46

BIRMINGHAM:  Madison Academy made six free throws in the final 38 seconds Tuesday night to edge Greensboro 49-46 in the Class 4A boys’ semifinals of the 96th AHSAA Class 4A State Basketball Championships at the BJCC Legacy Arena.
The victory puts the Mustangs sends to the championship game Friday at 5:45 p.m., to face Cordova (25-9). Coach Andy Blackston’s team won the state title in 2015 and 2016 but lost in the semifinals last season.
Calvin Bacon broke a 43-43 tie with two free throws at the 38-second mark of the final period. Calvin Walker sank a pair of free throws 18 seconds later and returned to the foul line with nine seconds left and sealed the win with two more. Greensboro (23-12), coached by Barry Williams, made a shot at the buzzer when Samuel Nevels fired a 3-pointer from mid-court line to close out the scoring.
Madison Academy’s free-throw shooting proved to be the difference. The Mustangs were 12-of-16 on the night and the Raiders were just 2-of-10.
Bacon had 18 points and Walker finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead MA.  Walker also had five assists and seven blocked shots.
Greensboro’s Nevels finished with eight points. Damigual Edwards had nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds, John Moore had nine points and Rodney Davis had eight points and six boards before fouling out late.
Madison Academy’s girls also clinched a spot in the 4A finals and will meet Deshler at 4 p.m., Friday.
The AHSAA state tourney, now in its 25th year at the BJCC, resumes Wednesday with Class 6A and Class 5A girls’ and boys’ semifinals. The Class 7A semifinals will be Thursday morning. Championship games begin Thursday afternoon with Class 1A. The remaining 12 state championship games will be Friday and Saturday.
All semifinal games in the tourney are being live video-streamed by the NFHS Network and broadcast over the AHSAA Radio Network. Both may be accessed at www.ahsaa.com. Raycom Sports will broadcast all finals.
