Defending Class 4A girls’ state basketball champion Deshler jumped out to a 56-21 lead by halftime en route to an 86-60 win over Greensboro Wednesday in the Class 4A semifinals of the 95 th AHSAA State Basketball Championships played at the BJCC Legacy Arena. The victory was the 68 th in a row for Coach Jana Killen’s Tigers (34-0). Deshler advanced to Friday’s Class 4A state championship game at 4 p.m. Junior Taylor Aikerson scored 29 points in the win. She was 13-of-19 from the field with three 3-point goals. Senior Nicole Shirley added five 3-pointers and finished with 20 points. Shirley also had nine steals and seven assists. Karleigh Sledge chipped in 11 points and six rebounds. Greensboro (22-5), coached by Frances Dunn, outscored Deshler 39-29 in the second half with senior center Elexis Evans totaling 27 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Nine of the boards came on offense. Trinity Hambright and Moesha Chandler added eight points each. Classes 6A and 5A will play semifinal games for girls and boys Wednesday beginning at 9 a.m. Class 7A will play Thursday’s morning session with the Class 1A girls’ and boys’ championship games following at 4 and 5:45 p.m., respectively. Friday’s finals will include Class 2A, 3A and 4A boys and girls. The 2017 state tourney will conclude Saturday with Class 5A, 6A and 7A girls’ and boys’ championship games. All semifinals are being live-streamed by the NFHS Network, and the finals will be televised live and live-streamed by Raycom Sports. The AHSAA Radio Network is also broadcasting all games over its statewide radio network and internet link.
