MONTGOMERY – The North girls beat the South 4-1 Tuesday night and the North boys posted a 5-2 win at Emory Folmar Soccer Complex to sweep the competition at the 21 st AHSAA Summer Conference and All-Star Sports Week. The all-star competition is part of the AHSAA annual Summer Conference and Coaching School administered by the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association (AHSADCA). North Girls 4, South Girls 1: North MVP Hailey Whitaker of Oak Mountain scored two goals as the winners improved to 13-2-1 in the series that dates back to 1997. The South took the early lead with Kate Eubanks of McGill-Toolen Catholic scoring on an assist from her own Yellow Jackets teammate Chloe Martin just seven minutes into the match. Vestavia Hills’ Faith Hauberg tied the match at 1-1 19 minutes later and Whitaker gave the North the lead at intermission with a goal at the 29:50 mark. She got an assist from Hauberg. Whitaker’s second goal game at 59:40 in the second half and Maddison Martin of Chelsea scored the final goal with just 3 ½ minutes left in the match. Eubanks was named MVP for the South. North goalkeeper Elena Register of Hoover had three goals. Courtnie Trapp of Benjamin Russell and Bailey Cameron Enterprise and 5 and 4 saves, respectively, for the South. The South coaches were Jacey Mitchell of Spanish Fort and Stuart Bonner of Montgomery Academy. North coaches were Jeff Samoranski of Pell City and Sarah Dunlap of Decatur. North Boys 5, South Boys 2: The North improved to 11-4-1 in the North-South boys’ all-star series as North MVP Miguel Tizapa of Cullman scored a hat trick with three goals to lead his team to the victory. The South scored first when St. Paul’s Episcopal’s Wilson Beaverstock scored at 8:40 of the first half. Tizapa scored at 23:12 to tie the match and Mountain Brook’s Ethan Harradine put the North ahead for good six minutes later with a goal assisted by Brooks Rice of Spain Park. Tizapa made it 4-1 early in the second half at the 56:26 mark and Rice made it 5-1 just 15 seconds later. Peter Garland of Montgomery Catholic scored the South’s second goal at 61:28 on an assist from Foley’s Cameron Walker, and Tizapa posted his third goal at 67:28 to close out the scoring. Beaverstock, who had three shots on goal, was named the South MVP. Tizapa had four shots on goal. North coaches were Dan DeMasters of Oak Mountain and Trey Stanford of Russellville. The South was coached by Davidson’s Kevin DeLange and Stanhope Elmore’s Johanna Angelo.
